The GR65 is one of the many walking routes that make up the Grande Randonée – a network of long distance paths that criss-cross France and the rest of Europe. The GR65 begins in Switzerland and ends in Spain. It is a variant of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella. In France, it is also known as the Chemin de St-Jacques and in Spain as the Camino de Santiago. Like the other Grand Randonées, it is marked at frequent intervals with signs consisting of a horizontal white stripe immediately above a similar stripe in red.

Originally perched on an embankment, the sign was later moved (by May 2015) about 80 meters along the path to the west and mounted on two supporting posts. It now stands on or much closer to WGS84 longitude zero. Its exact latitude and longitude in this new position still needs to be confirmed.
