Tree three of four. Four trees were planted across the meadow at the fishery with the aid of the Millennium Tree Line (MTL) team – probably around 1996 at about the time the first of the two lakes was being constructed. The tree varieties are (from south to north): tree 1, alder; tree 2, ash; tree 3, ash; tree 4, holly. The holly is located near the field boundary. Protective enclosures were erected at or soon after the time of planting. None of the trees were marked with the distinctive green MTL discs as the planting predates their manufacture. The four trees are clearly visible on Google Earth – making this, the only location were the MTL’s aim of the tree line being visible from the air is known to have been realised. The entrance sign to the fisheries, complete with weather vane, is deliberately sited on the meridian. Apart from the holly, the trees all have old bark damage from grazing animals. This particular tree, which was particularly badly affected, was very slow to establish.
