Originally marked following the resurfacing of the tennis courts in around 2008, the line was remarked in 2015 after the original was destroyed during a six week refurbishment and resurfacing programme that began on 3 November 2014.
Bizarrely, given the proximity of the tennis courts to the Observatory, the original line was painted around eight metres too far to the east. For reasons that currently defy explanation, rather than correct the error when the line was remarked, the original error was compounded by not only moving the line still further to the east, but also by marking it completely skew to the Meridian! It now runs in a direction that is roughly 8º to the east of north. To compare the locations of the two lines, reference should be made to where the line meets the fencing rather than where it crosses the individual courts as the position of the six courts was adjusted at the time that the refurbishments were carried out.
