Part of the O2 Arena complex, Meridian Gardens is a large space that originally provided a gateway for visitors arriving by boat for the Millennium Experience in the year 2000. It's surroundings have long since become messy and uninviting and are said to have played host to occasional events and exhibitions. From around 1999 until about 2013, when construction of the nearby Arora Tower and InterContinental Hotel began, the southern end of the gardens was also home to a helipad. The Arora Tower (which officially opened in 2016) is on the site of the former helipad and the Gardens are now smaller than before. Confusingly, the region of the Greenwich Peninsula being redeveloped to the south-east of the dome is also known as Meridian Gardens.
