One of several similar markings installed in the borough of Waltham Forest in 2015. Whilst most were a replacement of previous thermoplastic markings pavement markings in the form of a compass rose, this location had not been previously marked. Having said that, just a few yards to the south, there is a marking from 1963 which takes the form of a paving slab. Although they both claim to mark the Meridian, they are not in alignment with each other.
