Although a celebration bonfire was lit (by the Chairman of Epping Forest District Council) on the Meridian here at Gilwell Park on 13 October 1984 as part of the ‘centenary celebrations’, there does not appear to have been a permanent marking until much later. The first permanent marking was a plaque of a post. This oak tree was planted immediately to its south and a beacon installed to its north in about 2007. The tree died at an early stage and was missing altogether when the site was visited in 2011. The plaque and its post were relocated in around 2015–16.
