Now part of the Lee Valley Regional Park, but formerly part of the Royal Gunpowder Mills where development and research on explosives took place, Gunpowder Park’s 255 acres of regenerated green space were opened on 4 June 2004 by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. The Meridian Line runs up though its centre and is apparently sown annually with wildflower plantings. Located on the Line in the centre of the park is a raised viewpoint, which was created as ‘a place for contemplation’.
