The path of the Meridian across Sun Street was originally marked with two engraved stone slabs which were set into the edges of the roadway in 1983. Within 20 years however, they had become heavily worn and difficult to read. In early 2017, they were replaced by a single 15-foot long mosaic depicting a map of the World, the Abbey, King Henry VIII and a pair of Chinese dragons to signify east meeting west. The mosaic, an initiative between Waltham Abbey Town Partnership, the Epping Forest District Museum and the Waltham Abbey Town Council, was designed and constructed by the Paul Siggins Mosaic Studio. A formal celebratory event inaugurating the work took place on 6 May 2016.
