In 1984, the National Maritime Museum arranged for the Enfield Foundry to cast a bronze plaque to commemorate the so-called ‘centenary’ of the Prime Meridian. At the time, it was stated that they would only be produced if 20 or more orders were received. How many were made is unknown, the foundry’s records having been destroyed. Four have been located to date. Two of these are on opposite sides of the road in Oxted, Surrey. The plaque was originally mounted 'off meridian' on the sports block. This was subsequently demolished and rebuilt. Rather than replace it in its original position, the school intended instead to remount it on the wall of one of the teaching blocks in roughly the position shown in the 2005 image set.
