Made from Cumbrian slate, this sundial was unveiled on 12 October 1984 as part of the Meridian’s ‘centenary’ celebrations. Its location under the previously planted oak tree (1968) is less than ideal, for although the tree is to the north, the shade it casts makes the sundial unusable at times. What is presumed to be the maker’s mark (the letter Q) can be found on the sundial’s rear (bottom left). The dial almost certainly influenced the choice of mark erected in the nearby village of Meldreth (to the south) in 1999.
