Meridian wood was created on 1.01 hectares (2.5 acres) of land given to the Woodland Trust by Bluntisham Parish Council in June 2000. It was planted by volunteers that December with a mixture of 1,400 mixed shrub and tree species, including fruiting trees to reflect the prevalence of orchards in the vicinity. It was named Meridian Wood in the seemingly mistaken belief that it lies on the Greenwich Meridian (the Meridian actually passes through an adjacent field about 100 m to the east).
