Although a key aim of the Millennium Tree Line (MTL) project was to plant trees on the (Airy) Meridian, the Line actually passes about 30 m to the east of the Holbeach Link Road Nature Reserve, where they planted this lime tree which was sponsored by the George Farmer School. The 1998 image shows children from the school with the tree at the time of its planting. MTL’s project manager, Catherine Freeman, is standing on the right of the group holding the GPS used to record the tree’s location. In 1999, the school became known as George Farmer Technology and Language College and in 2011 was merged with St Guthlac’s School on the George Farmer site and renamed University Academy Holbeach. The tree was no longer present when the planting site was visited for this website in 2008.
