Simon Mason (25 Jul 2000).The plaque shows the Greenwich Meridian (gold) running across a map of the local area (dark green). Spurn Head and Patrington are marked along with the Humber Estuary and the year of erection (2000). Four schematic gulls (blue) are shown flying above the sea. The weathering of the paint together with a lack of contrast with the mottled grey of the granite make the inscriptions increasingly hard to see. The road sign behind is probably contemporaneous. Although Patrington took part in the ‘Meridian Day’ celebrations in 1984, the Meridian does not appear to have been marked (at least in any permanent way) until 1999–2000.
